ACADEMICS
Cornerstone Academy uses high quality, research-based teaching techniques driven by each student’s annual academic, social, behavioral, vocational, and communication benchmarks in addition to those outlined in the Next Generation Sunshine State and Common Core Standards.
Students with significant cognitive disabilities will utilize Access Points. Access Points curriculum is expectations written for students with significant cognitive disabilities to access the general education curriculum. Embedded in the Sunshine State Standards, Access Points reflect the core intent of the standards with reduced levels of complexity.
Curriculum
Cornerstone Academy uses a multi-modality teaching approach to address the learning styles and diverse needs of our students. Our curriculum includes but not limited to: McGraw Hill, Houghton Mifflin-Harcourt, Pearson, Access Points, SRA Reading, PECS, Unique Learning Systems, Touch Math, Equals Math, Strategies for Writers, Top Score Writing, Model Me Social Skills, and iReady.
Once your child is enrolled, a personalized academic and behavior plan is created. These plans are then further broken down into individual outcomes. Data is collected at least three times per week to evaluate the student’s progress and is reviewed monthly by our academic team. This information is shared with parents in a daily communication log sent home with the student.
